Unique Viewpoints: Recent work by Québec artists
Selections from the Canada Council Art Bank
The National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa is presenting the Québec Scene – a 16 day festival showcasing Québec’s arts and culture. As part of its ongoing partnership with the NAC, the Art Bank is featuring a special selection of works in the dedicated space on the NAC’s mezzanine from April 20 to May 5, 2007. Unique Viewpoints: Recent work by Québec artists is an exhibition of works by artists currently living and working in Québec from the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank. This selection of works highlights the rich diversity of current artistic practice in Québec. Paper cutouts, paper sculpture, embroidery, website design, photography, etching, drawing and painting are some of the techniques used by the artists to convey the essence of their unique relationship to the community.
Featured artists include: Hannah Claus: “Colonial House & Overgrown House”, 2004 Michel Daigneault: “Au Coeur des Choses”, 2003 Denis Farley: “Déplacements, Archives Nationales, Gatineau”, 2004 Jérôme Fortin: “Sans titre #6 (de la série Écrans)”, 2006 Skawennati Tricia Fragnito: “Imagining Indians in the 25th Century”, 2001 Dil Hildebrand: “Camping Fishing”, 2006 Manuel Lau: “Le chat rouge et chiens jaunes”, 2006 Shawna McLeod: “LFU 1”, 2005 Michèle Provost: “The sampler: une histoire urbaine”, 2002-2003 Carlos and Jason Sanchez: “Overflowing Sink”, 2002 Karen Tam: “Ching-Chong Chinaman, Sitting on a Wall”, 2003 Henri Venne: “One Last Time Before it Ends”, 2004
The Art Bank is an art rental agency of the Canada Council with a collection of over 18,000 works of contemporary Canadian art. It is grateful to the National Arts Centre for the use of this space to display works from its collection. It is particularly pleased to present these works in support of the Québec Scene.
