Art Bank Artists on High Demand
When collecting institutions across Canada start planning retrospectives and other important exhibitions of major contemporary Canadian artists, their first job might be to ask the Art Bank if they can borrow from their collection of 18000 works of art. So it is with no surprise that the National Gallery of Canada contacted the Art Bank to request works for an exhibition celebrating the 1960s. What might be a surprise for some is that these works, that are included in such high profile events, are all available for lease from the Art Bank. Here are but a few of the recent examples where the Art Bank art works are in the spotlight:
The National Gallery is presenting “The Sixties in Canada ” from February 4 to April 24. We are pleased to announce that eight works by Art Bank artists are being featured in this show, including works by: Michael Morris, Art McKay, Guy Montpetit, Jacques Hurtubise, Serge Tousignant, Les Levine, Rita Letendre, and Walter Redinger. Check out this website to see the line up of activities connected with this exhibition: http://www.gallery.ca/exhibitions/exhibitions/sixties/english/index.html
The Canadiann Museum of Civilization is presenting “Cool ‘60s Designs” from February 25 to November 27. It features a work by Art Bank artist Zbigniew Blazeje. For more information about this exhibition, please visit this website: http://www.civilization.ca/cmc/design/designe.html
We are further delighted to announce that Carl Beam, Lynne Cohen, Paul Wong, Roland Poulin, Françoise Sullivan, Lisa Steele, and Kim Tomczak, seven of the eight Laureates of this year’s prestigious Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts, are well represented in the Art Bank collection.
